Chris Oldham
Democratic Candidate for Representative Texas House District 58
Investing in Our People, Not Just Our Politics
Texas has a record surplus, yet our families are still feeling the squeeze. I’m running to ensure our tax dollars work for us—by finally expanding Medicaid to keep our rural hospitals open and lowering the cost of living for working families. As a 30-year business veteran, I know the difference between a good investment and a waste. It’s time to invest in Johnson and Somervell County families.
Protecting Our Local Schools from Austin Vouchers
Our public schools are the heart of our community. I am 100% committed to fully funding our local schools and giving our teachers the raises they deserve. I will stand firmly against any 'school voucher' scheme that sends our rural tax dollars to private schools in big cities. Let’s keep our money in our community, supporting our kids.
Restoring Texas Common Sense and Personal Freedom
Government overreach isn't just about taxes—it's about our personal lives. I believe in a Texas where medical decisions are made by women and their doctors, not by politicians in Austin. I will fight to restore reproductive freedoms and expand healthcare access so no Texan has to choose between a doctor’s visit and their mortgage.
A Voice for the Rest of Us. No more extreme politics - just common-sense solutions for District 58.
Results, Not Culture Wars!
A True Voice: Chris’s Story
I’m a native Texan, a father, and a proud resident of Mansfield. While I have lived in West, Central, and North Texas, my life partner Mike and I chose Mansfield as our home in 2019. I am committed to preserving the quality of life that makes our community special.
My view of the world was shaped by an early challenge. When I was a freshman in high school, I lost my father. I watched my mother, a Registered Nurse, work incredibly hard to provide for us on a single income. That experience showed me the resilience of Texas families, but it also showed me how much community matters. The support we received from our neighbors in Fredericksburg made all the difference, and it instilled in me a lifelong drive to support others.
I carried that spirit of service into Angelo State University, where I earned my B.B.A. and served as a Program Director for the United Campus Ministries. Working with students from various denominations taught me that we achieve more when we focus on what unites us rather than what divides us.
I spent my professional career at Verizon, serving 30 years in roles ranging from Purchasing to Systems Management. Whether I was supervising teams, managing budgets, or implementing complex technical systems, my focus was always on efficiency and accountability. I retired in 2024, and now I am ready to apply those decades of business experience to work for you.
A Statement of Conservative Principles
My conservative principles are rooted in the fundamental belief that Texas thrives when government is limited and individual liberty is protected. As a business leader, I will bring decades of financial discipline and accountability to Austin, fighting every attempt to raise your taxes and demanding full efficiency from state agencies. I will be an unwavering champion for property owners, standing firm against government overreach and the abuse of eminent domain. Furthermore, I believe in empowering Texas families, supporting local control of our schools, and ensuring academic integrity is prioritized over political agendas. I am Chris Oldham, and I am running to be A True Voice for District 58 that delivers principled, conservative results.
Our Vision for District 58
Our vision is simple: We know that we achieve more when we focus on what unites us rather than what divides us!
Public Education: Stop the Voucher Scheme!
Our Texas economy is powered by hardworking families. I will champion policies that empower parents, invest in local public schools, and ensure every child in District 58 has access to an excellent education without raising taxes. I support community-based solutions that put parents and students first.
Protect Our Local Schools from Austin Vouchers
Our public schools are the heart of our community. I am 100% committed to fully funding our local schools and giving our teachers the raises they deserve. I will stand firmly against any 'school voucher' scheme that sends our rural tax dollars to private schools in big cities. Let’s keep our money in our community, supporting our kids.
Local Decision Making
Fight bureaucratic overreach and empower parents, teachers, and local school boards to make decisions, not Austin regulators.
Supporting Teachers
Support legislation that increases teacher pay and reduces administrative burdens, so educators can focus on teaching.

Relief through Resilience: Moving from Crisis to Care
Proactive Mental Health & "The Roving Nurse" Model
Reviving Community-Based Care: In the 80s and 90s, our local MHMR offices were proactive, not just reactive. I am championing a return to the Home Health Care Network, where roving nurses and mental health professionals conduct wellness checks and medication management.
Crisis Prevention: By meeting patients where they are—in their homes and communities—we ensure compliance with treatment protocols and identify needs before they escalate into a 911 call or a hospital ER visit.
Ending the "Jail-as-a-Hospital" Pipeline
Intermediary Care Facilities: For those in active crisis, we must replace the county jail cell with Intermediary Care Centers. These facilities provide a bridge to recovery, allowing law enforcement to divert citizens to medical professionals rather than the criminal justice system.
Medicaid Expansion for Texans
It is time to bring our federal tax dollars home! Expanding Medicaid in Texas will stabilize our local hospitals, lower insurance premiums for all of us, and provide the sustainable funding needed for mental health networks.
Infrastructure & Workforce: The Foundation of Security
Infrastructure for Commuters: Wasted fuel and time on I-35W and Hwy 287 is a "hidden tax." We will build the infrastructure that Mansfield, Burleson, and Cleburne and District 58 families deserve.
Vocational & Trade Excellence: We will ensure that high-demand, high-paying jobs are accessible to every student, recognizing that a four-year degree is just one of many paths to a secure middle-class life.
Property Tax & Utility Relief: We will continue the fight to lower the tax burden and ensure that energy and water remain affordable and reliable for every household.

Protect Private Property and Water Rights
Stand up for the concerns of agricultural producers, landowners, and homeowners in Johnson and Somervell counties
Protecting the private property rights and water resources of District 58 is non-negotiable. Whether it is fighting against eminent domain abuse or securing our water supply for future growth in our cities and farms, I will be a staunch defender of individual Texans against government overreach.
Stand against government abuse of eminent domain that targets family land.
Work to secure safe and sustainable water supplies for our growing communities and essential agricultural needs.
Ensure local municipalities have the necessary support for safe, reliable infrastructure improvements
